Amelia’s Daddy is 26

It’s Titchyprincess’s daddy’s birthday today. In previous years I’ve gone for pretty big presents (a trip to Poland, a day at Harry Potter studio tour) but this year we went for smaller, cuter presents. As this is the first of his birthdays that we have spent together in our own home we put up banners and balloons and Amelia helped me bake a cake yesterday. I know, it is not perfect but it tastes nice and is covered in chocolate and butter cream so rob isn’t complaining.

Amelia’s present to her daddy was this cushion. The case is a personalised one from studio and the cushion itself I found in dunelm mill – what good is a cushion without a middle?

One of the sillier presents I bought Rob:

Monster socks from primark

Monster socks! They are from Primark and Amelia is mesmerised by them thanks to all the bright colours. I never seem to get out as many socks as I put in the washing so I’m sure I will loose at least one of these socks in the near future. But they are fun while they last.

Amelia’s daddy really loves hot chocolate so I made him up a box of different instant hot chocolates (this translates to me going in Sainsbury’s and filling a basket with a dozen different sachets). Rob has already tried the wispa gold hot chocolate and Amelia is fascinated with the box I wrapped them all in.

There always has to be a joke present! I found this man apron at littlewoods . The funniest part of it is that rob will probably use it to avoid getting his clothes wet when he does the washing up.

We’ve spent the morning having breakfast – sausages and eggy bread – and watching the snow!!! out the window. It’s been a very relaxed morning and Rob liked all his presents. Yes he had more than the ones I’ve mentioned, but trying to take multiple photos with Amelia grabbing at everything is impossible.

It’s the first of December tomorrow and the birthday banners will be replaced with tinsel and baubles. I can’t wait.

Babies Diary

When I was contacted about ‘diaryzapp’ the app I was excited. I am always on Instagram and Twitter and love sharing things about Amelia. I hadn’t heard of this app before but when I started reading about it I couldn’t wait to download it. It’s aimed at little ones and their families, meaning it’s very colourful and easy to use. The app was designed by a family for other family’s , largely thanks to an idea their son Noah came up with.

Diaryzapp is a kind of online diary. You can write, draw and include pictures on each page. When the pages are complete you can share them with your buddies. These are people you invite via email who can then view what your little ones have been up to. It is all password protected so very safe and this prevents strangers from being able to look at the diary. Our first invite was to my mum. Amelia’s nanny loves seeing what she’s been up to.

When you open the app you get to design a cartoon monster type character, one of the ‘zappicons’ and give them a name. You can choose from a variety of body parts, picking the arms, the eyes, the torso shape and a number of other add ons. You can also change the colour of each body part you add. Below is an image of Amelia’s zappicon. ( please excuse the quality of the image, it was taken on my phone from the iPad screen so is not of the best quality, but wanted to include an image of Amelia’s character)

Obviously I did this for Amelia – although she did touch the screen enough to draw a picture, read scribble – but if your children are older they could do this themselves with your help. You can have up to five different ‘zappers’ so if you have more than one child they can all take a turn. The character sits at the bottom of the screen and helps you through the app with little speech bubbles containing instructions and tips. After a number of days you unlock a new feature, the first one we unlocked was a photo icon.

We have been using the app for nearly two weeks now and I am delighted with it. It’s so easy to use and brightly coloured. At only £1.99 it’s very affordable too. (For apple users it is available from the App Store and android users can find it in their store too)

My only complaint is that I wish I had had it sooner! As Amelia gets bigger she will be able to use it herself and I am so excited to see what she will add to her diary. The app is linked with photobox so it is really easy to have the diary printed or turned into a variety of other photo products. The mugs and photo cushions would make wonderful gifts for relatives and friends, nanny’s, grandads, aunties and uncles. Definitely worth considering as Christmas gifts. If you are stuck for ideas for baby’s first Christmas, have a look at my post here.

Overall I was very impressed with this app. Online safety is something we need to be increasingly aware of and diaryzapp is one way in which we can know our children are safe online, thanks to the passwords and buddy systems.
